As Fishers became one of Indiana’s fastest‑growing and youngest cities, the IU Health Fishers campus required a broader range of family‑centered healthcare services.
MSKTD & ASSOCIATES, in a joint venture with HKS, led the architectural design for a four‑story expansion tower transforming the campus into a full‑service community hospital. The project introduces new and expanded services in obstetrics and gynecology, Riley Children’s Health emergency medicine, and additional inpatient capacity, while setting the framework for long‑term growth through shelled space and resilient infrastructure.
The expansion emphasizes early activation of clinical services, allowing care teams and patient volume to be established ahead of the tower’s opening, along with simulation‑driven design that engaged frontline staff in shaping room layouts and workflows.
Practitioner wellbeing was prioritized through access to natural light, dedicated staff support spaces, and restorative outdoor environments. Delivered through an integrated, multi‑project approach, the expansion strengthens IU Health Fishers as a responsive, forward‑looking healthcare destination—designed to support patients, families, and providers alike.
The project is also on track for LEED Gold certification, underscoring a commitment to sustainability through improved daylighting, thoughtful materials selection, and energy-efficient systems.
