ENGINEERING A BETTER SOLUTION FOR FE EXAM PREP

When our very own Thomas K. was tutoring engineering students last year, he soon learned that they lacked the resources to properly prepare for the FE Civil Exam. Practice tools were scarce, so he initially wrote practice questions to help. When he saw improvement in their performance, he decided to develop an FE test preparation software.
Today, The FE Simulator is helping civil engineers prepare for the exam online and follows the principle that “perfect practice makes perfect.” He wants it to emulate the test‑taking environment to prepare students holistically, even addressing issues of time management and test anxiety. Students can easily navigate the reference manual within the practice test and retain more information by taking exam sections in manageable chunks reinforced by immediate results. Since students can adjust the categories they work on, they can target specific topics and learn at their own pace.
The skills Thomas has developed at MSKTD have proven invaluable to this project. Working on real-world engineering projects has helped him write more applicable practice questions, and the mentoring he’s received from colleagues has shaped his approach to both engineering and entrepreneurship. His MSKTD colleagues have supported his project while also guiding him on his path to becoming a Professional Engineer.
What does success look like for The FE Simulator? Thomas envisions helping those already working in the engineering field by streamlining their way to exam completion. With a current deficit of engineers in the workforce, The FE Simulator aims to help address that gap.
