MEET SENIOR ASSOCIATE BEN GREENBERG, REGISTERED ARCHITECT
Ben Greenberg, senior architect and senior associate at MSKTD & Associates, is on a mission, one that will take the company where he has found a fulfilling career to the next level. “Part of my expectation as a senior associate is to continue to push MSKTD as far as we can. I want potential employees to compare us to other firms and see why we are the best employer in the region.”
For Ben, a love of architecture started early. “As a child of a diplomat, I spent most of my childhood abroad. I gained exposure to a wide variety of architecture from around the world.” Born in West Berlin, Ben has lived on three different continents and seen types of buildings most kids only view in books and movies. That sheer variety, coupled with a childhood fascination with Legos, led him to consider a career in architecture.
And while he applied to architecture schools all over the nation, a top scholarship at Ball State University landed him in the Midwest, a place he’s now proud to call home. “I really wanted to stay in Indiana after graduation,” he explained, citing a slower pace and reduced stress from east-coast living.
Paul Lindsay, a former classmate and now principal at MSKTD, made the introduction to the firm, and Ben officially joined the team in May of 2012. For Ben, it was an immediate connection. “I’ve always felt comfortable here,” he said. “It’s a really good working environment, one that creates opportunities for professional growth and development.”
Take the first project where he took the lead, for example. “We designed a childcare addition for a local YMCA,” he said. “The project required a lot of client interface, and they really appreciated the expertise we brought to the table. At the ribbon cutting, it was great to see how much the addition meant to the community.”
As a senior architect with MSKTD’s Food and Hygienic Design group, Ben’s role involves building trust and maintaining strict confidentiality with clients. “Our clients’ success depends on them getting first to market, so we maintain confidentiality throughout design, development, and construction, even within the firm. Our clients appreciate knowing that we’re there to work for them, not talk about competitors.”
Creating custom solutions to ensure client success requires an attention to detail and good listening skills. “We’re here to listen to how our clients want to accomplish their goals. We follow up with questions that provide context so we can make great strides together with our clients early in the process.”
A close and regular partnership with team members at MSKTD, including those on the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering teams, makes that success possible. “The rapport we’ve built up over the years makes for good collaboration,” he said. “It’s a close and regular partnership.”
A dual emphasis on making a difference for clients and using problem-solving skills to overcome challenges drives Ben to focus on continued improvement, both for himself and for the company. “As a senior associate,” he said, “I appreciate the opportunity for substantial involvement in our company culture, as well as the chance to make MSKTD the best place it can be.”
