Lutheran Children’s Hospital of Indiana
Fort Wayne, Indiana
The Lutheran Children’s Hospital created a unique opportunity to provide children with a new type of healing environment. Greeting children to the “hospital within a hospital” is a large treehouse elevator. As the symbolic entrance to the new children’s hospital, it gives new meaning to the word “treatment.” Work has consisted of lobby alterations and new outpatient and oncology services.
The 16-room outpatient clinic creates a warm and colorful environment that helps make scary trips to the doctor a little easier. The waiting room greets children of all ages into a facility specifically designed for kids.
Engaging children during the design process helped to create a unique space where a child can feel more comfortable. Every aspect of design, from the lowered counters to the “hidden” tree seat, keeps in mind that children are more than just small adults.
